Our kids are watching us.
Studies show that if parents drink a lot of water, chances are their children will too. And if parents drink a lot of sweetened beverages, in most cases, so will their kids.
We can hear the collective gasp of parents, "But I love my _____" -- fill in the blank--Coke, sweet tea, Surge, etc. We can also hear a quieter, shared sigh of guilt. We could take this as an opportunity to hold on to our cups, cans and bottles more tightly or to feel guilty, but the better option is to take an honest look at what we’re drinking and ask the Dr. Phil question: “Is it working for you?” Are the financial costs, calories, health drawbacks, and message to your kids worth it? If you decide they’re not and want to cut back, check out the Drink Calculator and then consider Taking the Plunge.
